Drayage is the short-haul trucking of shipping containers between a port or rail yard and a nearby warehouse, distribution center, or job site. Eastwind Trucking is a container drayage company based in Elizabeth, NJ. We pick up import containers at Port Newark, Port Elizabeth, and the New York terminals, deliver them across the Northeast, return the empties, and handle export loads in reverse. We also move containers to and from every New Jersey rail yard.
We serve all terminals in the Port of New York and New Jersey, including Port Newark, the Elizabeth Marine Terminal (Maher, APM, and PNCT), GCT Bayonne, and the New York side terminals. Our headquarters in Elizabeth and our container yard in Newark are both minutes from the gates, which helps us protect appointment windows.
Yes. We run intermodal drayage to and from every New Jersey rail yard, including CSX, Croxton, and Millenium Rails, with Just-In-Time performance for production schedules.
We cover New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York (metro and upstate), Ohio, and all of New England through Maine. Scheduled lanes run daily across the Northeast metropolitan areas, and on-demand capacity is available for one-off moves.
Scheduled service is a recurring program, for example a set number of containers per day or week on a fixed lane, with dedicated equipment and consistent drivers. On-demand service covers rush shipments, off-cycle moves, and non-standard endpoints when your shipping window shifts. Most customers use a mix of both.
Yes. Eastwind operates privately owned tractors and our own 20, 40, and 45 foot chassis. We do not rely on third-party equipment or chassis pools for primary lanes, which keeps capacity, service quality, and cost under our control.
Our secure 8-acre container yard in Newark, NJ is fenced, lit, and monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day. It is minutes from the ports and is customs-bonded capable, so we can stage, store, and pre-pull containers to protect your appointment windows and reduce demurrage and per-diem exposure.
Dispatch is in-house and staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. When you call, you reach a real operator who can see your load, not a call center or an automated line. We provide direct communication on pickups, deliveries, and empty returns.
Yes. Eastwind handles bonded freight moving through the New Jersey and New York gateways, including in-bond moves to and from our Newark yard and other bonded facilities.
Yes. We hold a Liquor Transportation Permit and are licensed to move beverage alcohol and other regulated commodities under state and federal requirements.
Yes to both. We have the chassis, permits, and routing experience for overweight and non-standard container moves where many carriers cap out, and we run appointment-driven Just-In-Time deliveries for manufacturers and distributors who cannot absorb a late container.

Origin and destination (terminal or rail yard and delivery address), container size and type, approximate weight, commodity, the date the container is available or needed, and any special requirements such as overweight, bonded, hazmat, or liquor. If you are not sure about a detail, send what you have and we will fill in the gaps.
Eastwind Trucking LLC operates under MC 829964 and US DOT 2411646, is a customs-bonded carrier, and holds a Liquor Transportation Permit. Certificates of insurance are available on request for your vendor onboarding.
